What is now called Israel, and should rightfully be called Palestine, is the result of the greatest replacement of the last centuries.
Hell on earth? That used to be nothing more than a phrase used for extreme situations, a first-class metaphor. Increasingly, though, it’s becoming an ever more accurate description of our lives on this planet and something we would have to get used to. Except that, for many of us in such a future, there would be no way to do so.
The recently-concluded discussions on the proposed TRIPS Agreement waiver at the WTO illustrates not only the limits of India’s negotiating strategies, but also a critical lack of consistent diplomatic leadership during a difficult period.
As AMLO consolidates his domestic position, he is gradually becoming active in international diplomacy, and taking independent stands on issues like the U.S. blockade of Cuba and its economic war against Venezuela, and the war between Russia and Ukraine.
Despite being a wealthy nation, food insecurity in the USA remains high. In contrast, Nicaragua has worked on ending poverty for the last fifteen years. One of the most important strategies has been to develop food security, and today they have reached approximately 90% food security.
Americans estimate that the Indian government would grab the I2U2 platform to burnish its international image. But if there is any sanity left in the Indian foreign policy establishment, a subaltern role to serve US and Israeli interests cannot enhance India’s prestige in West Asia.
The crisis is not going away any time soon. While this will mean even greater devastation for workers and students, it leaves open the possibility for this struggle to deepen its assault on Sri Lanka’s elites.
Biden has reversed Donald Trump’s withdrawal of US forces from Somalia and will redeploy Special Operations Forces. It is just the latest move in a long history of destructive US-UK meddling in the Horn of Africa.
It is hard to fathom the depths of our time, the terrible wars, and the confounding information that whizzes by without much wisdom. Certainties that flood the airwaves and the internet are easy to come by, but it appears that much of the ‘certainties’ are caught up in the ‘Cold War mentality’.
In recent times, there has been a distressing tendency on the part of the Centre to intrude unduly in areas that legitimately belong to the States, which has the effect of eroding the political identity of the State. These are disturbing trends that do not augur well for the well being of the nation.
Janata Weekly is India’s oldest independent socialist weekly.
Ever since its founding in 1946, Janata has voiced its principled dissent against all conduct and practice that is detrimental to the cherished values of nationalism, democracy, secularism and socialism, while upholding the integrity and the ethical norms of healthy journalism. For more than seventy years now, week after week, it has continued to analyse the changes taking place in the country and the world from a socialist standpoint, and thus promote the spread of socialist ideology in the country.
