India began to align with the anti-Iran regional front that Trump was sponsoring, involving Israel, Saudi Arabia and the UAE, and with Washington’s Indo-Pacific strategy against China. With Trump losing the election, and Biden deciding to engage with Iran, India is getting sidelined in the region.
The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor is built on infrastructure-driven economic growth and is based on land and resource grabbing. Pakistan is chasing the myth of agricultural modernisation and industrialisation which has caused much destruction in many other places in the world.
The reason for the Indian govt’s abysmal failure to tackle the second Covid wave lies in the fact that the Indian Republic – built as it is on the edifice of the British colonial state – is designed to work only on behalf of a tiny minority of Indians, leaving the vast majority to fend for themselves.
In April, the Indian government signed a MoU with Microsoft, allowing its local partner CropData to leverage a master database of farmers. It seems to be part of the AgriStack policy initiative, which is going to displace farmers from their lands and enable corporations to gain control over Indian agriculture.
The more the government tries to tighten its grip on dissent by cutting out all communications and shutting genuine dialogues, the more are the new bonds being created by the farmers’ movement. Many flowers may be cut, but Spring can no longer be prevented from coming.
The farming community along with common citizens would hoist black flags on their homes, tractors and vehicles and burn the effigy of PM Modi in villages, farmer leaders said.
