The more the government tries to tighten its grip on dissent by cutting out all communications and shutting genuine dialogues, the more are the new bonds being created by the farmers’ movement. Many flowers may be cut, but Spring can no longer be prevented from coming.
Farmers are uniting and protesting as never before in India. They are ignoring the caste, religious, and class boundaries that normally divide them. Prime Minister Modi planned to encircle the farmers. But the farmers are now encircling his government.
The script of collaboration is in two parts. The first part was when V.D. Savarkar collaborated with the British as promised by him in his mercy petitions from jail; the second part is more recent – BJP’s collaboration with big business.
The farmers have risen to defend their rights and this has now also become linked with the wider constitutional rights of all Indian citizens. We should do away with our pessimism and join them …
