Our universities are now turning into narrow and closed systems. There is little possibility in such a situation for fresh ideas to emerge. And by promoting a narrow Hindutva-based communal vision, universities are also becoming alienating spaces for non-Hindus.

Akin to several higher education institutions in the country, the ancient seat of learning, which was revived in 2010, is on the brink of being completely captured by those who subscribe to the BJP-RSS ideology.
In many remote areas, students have few options other than single-teacher schools in their villages. These are the very schools the government has targeted for closing down.
The deeper reasons behind the Sri Lankan crisis are Sinhalese Buddhist majoritarianism, authoritarianism of the Gotabaya regime, violent targeting of minorities, brutal methods adopted to curb press freedom and deliberate curbing of the culture of scrutiny of public policies.
