The ruling by the International Court of Justice was a legal victory for South Africa and the Palestinians, but it will not halt the slaughter.
Settler colonial states have a terminal shelf life. Israel is no exception.
Phase One of Israel’s genocidal campaign on Gaza has ended. Phase Two has begun. It will result in even higher levels of death and destruction.
There are no words to express what we are witnessing. In the five weeks of horror this is one of the pinnacles of horror. President Joe Biden will go down in history as an accomplice to genocide. May the ghosts of the thousands of children he has participated in murdering haunt him for the rest of his life.
“We have failed you.”
The proxy war in Ukraine is designed to serve U.S. interests. It enriches the weapons manufacturers, weakens the Russian military and isolates Russia from Europe. What happens to Ukraine is irrelevant.
The failure of too many in the mainstream press is not only inexcusable, but ominous.
Noam Chomsky: “Chris Hedges has been an incomparable source of insight and understanding, both in his outstanding career as a courageous journalist and in his penetrating commentary on world events.” In this article, Chris once again returns in a deeply personal way to war in his time.
Fascism is again ascendant. The far-right politician Giorgia Meloni is expected to become Italy’s prime minister after elections on Sunday. Extremism is the political cost of pronounced social inequality and political stagnation. Demagogues, who promise moral and economic renewal, vengeance against phantom enemies and a return to lost glory, rise out of the morass.
The global ruling class is cementing into place a world where they govern without accountability, we are reduced to serfdom, the climate crisis accelerates, and mass death is normalized.
