This is the year 2022, the target year the PM himself had set way back in 2016 for doubling farmers’ income. But like his other promises, this too was a mere jumla, the agricultural sector crisis continues, and so, predictably, this year’s budget speech makes no mention of this promise.
The 2022–23 union budget should have spelt out an economic strategy for reviving the economy and tackling the unemployment and poverty emergency gripping the country. But the FM does not even show cognizance of the problem.
The economy is in such dire straits: there is an urgent need for a strategy that promotes economic revival, while providing relief to the poor, and contributing to an abatement of inflation. However, the 2022-23 union budget does not even show cognizance of the problem.
Violence over identity and religion is something Indians are (unfortunately) used to. But on Tuesday, the country saw something rarer: riots over jobs.
Recent economic events make it clear there are two Indias. Which one should the upcoming Budget speech address?
There is something problematic with advocating a 30-hour work week at the beginning of the 21st century: a 30 hour week is not short enough!
Ever since the Modi Government has come to power at the Centre, it has mounted a fierce assault on the inherent values and directive principles of the Constitution. The current turbulence signified an abortive attempt at colour revolution in Kazakhstan, which boomeranged. CSTO forces, led by a tough seasoned general, quickly moved in to protect “strategic assets”. Presumably, such assets will include Pentagon-funded labs in Kazakhstan.
