The period of the Covid-19 pandemic has witnessed a dramatic worsening of the conditions of ordinary women and girls, made worse by official apathy and patriarchal attitudes of those in power.
If we are to do any justice to the Constitutional mandate of equality before law, and the right to legal representation, we must put in place a mechanism to provide competent and effective legal aid to all those who cannot afford it, particularly to those languishing in jail.

Under the distressing times of COVID-19, the Rajasthan Budget 2022-23 guarantees 100 days of employment for families in urban areas. However, the Central government has not paid heed to demands for such a scheme and has even reduced allocations for MGNREGA.
The workers, who are crucial for keeping critical health and nutrition programmes running, are not adequately compensated and protected against Covid-19.
Thousands of demonstrators took to Mali’s streets on January 14. What is the general context in which these demonstrations took place? What are the positions of the actors in the crisis? How did international actors react, including France and Russia?
