Psychopaths in Suits: Industry Executives Kill Americans with Impunity

    ByThom Hartmann January 23, 2022January 26, 2022

In America today if you poison and kill your wife to make $150,000 in life insurance money, you’ll probably end up in prison. But if you poison and kill hundreds of thousands of people so you can take home a multi-million-dollar paycheck, you get to buy a new yacht.

    The Triumph of Financial Capital

    ByPaul M. Sweezy January 23, 2022January 26, 2022

In 1936, John Maynard Keynes had stated: “When the capital development of a country becomes a byproduct of the activities of a casino, the job is likely to be ill-done.” Today these words sound prophetic, as they have been fully realized not only in the United States but in the whole world.

    ByJohn Bellamy Foster January 23, 2022January 26, 2022

The ever-growing conflict between ecology and capitalism reflects the startling degree to which profit-making has become the primary and most powerful connection between human beings and between human beings and nature.

The Right to Healthy Food: Comorbidities and COVID-19

    ByColin Todhunter January 23, 2022January 26, 2022

The vast majority of ‘COVID deaths’ are people with serious, ongoing health conditions. And a lot of these health-related problems can be traced back to modern farming methods and how food is cultivated, not least the toxic agrochemicals used.

    ByVijay Prashad January 23, 2022January 26, 2022

In October 2021, the United Nations Development Programme released a report that received barely any attention: the Global Multidimensional Poverty Index 2021. The report found that 1.3 billion – one in five people – live in multidimensional poverty.

Putin and Xi Plot Their SWIFT Escape

    ByPepe Escobar January 23, 2022January 26, 2022

Putin and Xi have agreed to create an “independent financial structure for trade operations that could not be influenced by other countries.” This may be announced by a joint summit before the end of 2022. This is a stunning game-changer in more ways than one.

The President Who Can’t Resist Defying the US Is at It Again

    ByDaniel Kovalik January 23, 2022January 26, 2022

President Ortega of Nicaragua has demonstrated through his continued victories, and through his forming of new alliances with countries like China, that times have changed; that it is now the US, with its crumbling empire, which must watch on the sidelines as countries like tiny Nicaragua chart their own futures.

    ByRicha Chintan January 23, 2022January 26, 2022

Not only has Cuba succeeded in vaccinating 93% of its population, including children – a figure more than most developed countries – with its indigenously developed vaccines, it has also started sending these vaccines to other countries that have approved them.

    ByKevin B. Anderson January 23, 2022January 26, 2022

Marx’s critique of gender oppression under crude communism offers an insightful and still-timely perspective that links together a needed critique from within the revolutionary movement and a conceptual framework that targets key features of an errant form of communism.

Janata Weekly

Janata Weekly is India’s oldest independent socialist weekly.

Ever since its founding in 1946, Janata has voiced its principled dissent against all conduct and practice that is detrimental to the cherished values of nationalism, democracy, secularism and socialism, while upholding the integrity and the ethical norms of healthy journalism. For more than seventy years now, week after week, it has continued to analyse the changes taking place in the country and the world from a socialist standpoint, and thus promote the spread of socialist ideology in the country.
