Hurricane Melissa is the strongest hurricane to hit Cuba in the last 150 years. As of now, no lives were lost in Cuba, and that is due to its national unity and preparedness that was able to evacuate over 700,000 people and their belongings out of harm’s way before the storm arrived.
5 November 2025 marks the 50th anniversary of Operación Carlota, Cuba’s internationalist mission in southern Africa, which was pivotal in securing Angola and Namibia’s independence and hastening the fall of apartheid South Africa.
