Khader Adnan died after 86 days of refusing food in protest against his detention by Israel. But if Israel broke and finally destroyed Adnan physically, it did not do so spiritually. “Our freedom is the most precious thing we have,” Adnan explained in an essay published in a book.
The latest Saudi moves and their implications for the United States and its client Israel can only be understood in the context of epochal geopolitical changes. Namely, the rise of China as a world power, its deepening alliance with Russia and the erosion of American power.
It is insulting for Israelis to launch this “democracy” movement when Palestinians have been ignored for decades. If the United States truly wants to spread democracy around the world, we must stop funding such blatant human rights violations. You simply cannot have it both ways.
It is not strange that the US, Canada, and Australia do not sympathize with the Palestinians because they themselves were settlers too who wiped out whole cultures and confiscated their land.
Rachel Corrie, an American Palestine-solidarity activist, was crushed to death by an Israeli bulldozer twenty years ago this month. She was murdered while attempting to defend a Palestinian home from demolition in Rafah, a city in the blockaded Gaza Strip.
