As the World Cup enters its final 10 days, one can only guess who will take home the trophy. But what can be said for certain, is that there’s one nation that has won people’s hearts, and captivated the world’s attention like no other – and their team isn’t even playing. And that is Palestine.
Apart from deepening ties with Tel Aviv on all fronts, especially military, the Hindutva ideologues in power in India draw great inspiration from the Israeli model of nationalism and repression.
Current talks between Washington and Tehran’s rulers to restore the 2015 nuclear agreement have been stalled, and there is little hope that progress will be made any time soon. Naturally, the U.S. places the blame on Tehran. However, U.S. propaganda grossly distorts the reality of the situation.
Over the past three days, relentless Israeli airstrikes killed at least 45 Palestinians, including 16 children, and caused extensive devastation; Also: Events continue to demonstrate that Palestine cannot be made a marginal issue, however much Israel and the USA try.
What is now called Israel, and should rightfully be called Palestine, is the result of the greatest replacement of the last centuries.
Sun Children, the latest film of renowned Iranian director Majid Majidi, is easily his finest since Children of Heaven (1997). It is also his most radical work in years, taking aim at various aspects of contemporary Iranian society.
Next month sees the 50th anniversary of the killing of Palestinian novelist and intellectual Ghassan Kanafani in July 1972. His death was attributed to the Mossad and the anniversary of it is worth reflecting upon in the light of a continuing resort to the policy of assassination by the State of Israel.
