With the world’s attention focused on Ukraine, almost no one has noticed a devastating civil war in Africa.
War is much more than a memory for Việt people who continue to navigate a landscape of unexploded ordnance and chemical contamination. All wars are fought endlessly in the bodies, minds, and lands of those who are invaded as well as those who fight.
The failure of too many in the mainstream press is not only inexcusable, but ominous.
Approximately 2.4 billion individuals, largely women and residents of rural areas, did not have consistent access to nutritious, safe, and sufficient food in 2022, said UN’s latest report. As many as 783 million faced hunger, and 148 million children suffered from stunted growth.
The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights has rightly said, “This is a moment for the country to seriously address the deep issues of racism and discrimination in law enforcement.”
AI won’t blow up the world. But the increasingly uncritical embrace of it, in a variety of narrow contexts, means the gradual erosion of some of humans’ most important skills.
Kovalik writes, “It is my belief, which I have come to over many years, and after travelling to places like Syria, Iran and Lebanon, that the U.S. and its allies are a force for chaos and destruction in the world.” It is in this context that “the conflict in Ukraine must be judged …”
