We must follow the bright lights arrayed across the world as grassroots movements campaign for environmental sanity and seek to abolish war.
Trying to simply recreate a green equivalent of our present world, vehicle by vehicle, could prove but another formula for disaster.
The myth of growth in our culture, whereby we perceive the accumulation of material and financial wealth as a proxy for social progress and human well-being. The example of Washington state illustrates how modern society struggles to abandon the illusion of limitless expansion, even when it tries to do right by its citizens.

The U.S. represents 4% of the world’s population, 25% of global covid deaths and 23% of covid cases. The capitalist ideologues who infest our government are incapable of coping with disease. In a word, they are incompetent. So no, in this country, covid isn’t going anywhere. It’ll keep killing.
The Socialists had been a significant force in American politics before they were so ruthlessly crushed in the 1920s. If the Socialist Party hadn’t been so hobbled, maybe they would have pushed the mainstream parties into creating a stronger social safety net that people today take for granted in countries like Canada or Denmark.
Current talks between Washington and Tehran’s rulers to restore the 2015 nuclear agreement have been stalled, and there is little hope that progress will be made any time soon. Naturally, the U.S. places the blame on Tehran. However, U.S. propaganda grossly distorts the reality of the situation.
Vietnam too has embraced the neoliberal order with open arms. It has led to sand mining, deforestation, overfishing in the South China Sea, and widespread water pollution.
While AFRICOM training has not helped African security forces curb terrorism, it has enabled them to repress civilian protests against reactionary African leaders who align with U.S. interests. It has also boosted corporate profits associated with the lucrative counterterrorism industry.
