At the call of Samyukta Kisan Morcha, thousands of farmers began a three-day protest on Friday in different parts of Western Uttar Pradesh. The farmers are voicing support for their counterparts in Lakhimpur Kheri who are on a 72-hour-long dharna since Thurdsay to press for various demands.
As another ‘Ninth August’ slips into history, it is important that we bask in the significance of the day and what it holds in store for all and particularly for the journey ahead! This reflection therefore is about the past, present and future – three tenses all encapsulated into one reality!
Farmers are again moving into the protest space. With new dimensions being added to their earlier movement: the Agnipath scheme and the contentious Electricity (Amendment) Bill-2022 have added to the pent up anger on the minimum support price (MSP).
