The 15th of June marked the beginning of an indefinite fast by Medha Patkar, for justice in the Narmada valley. The demands from this fast include rehabilitation of all the remaining project affected as per the laws, policies, and Supreme Court orders.
India cannot just open the floodgates to tourism. It must be scientifically paced. There is an obligation to protect the Islands’ fragile ecology and limited assets. It’s no shame to say we have insufficient space.
The Modi Government has unashamedly transferred enormous amounts of public funds and public wealth to the country’s biggest corporations. This has been the sole aim of PM Modi’s economic policies of the past 10 years. This article presents a brief overview of some of these transfers.

In a statement marking one year of what it calls “genocidal violence” in Manipur, the civil rights network Forum Against Corporatization and Militarization (FACAM) has claimed that the whole “conflict” is premised on the fact that the state is rich in natural resources.

Corporate business financing of politics in India goes back decades. The court ruling on the electoral bonds scheme is not going to end this business-politics nexus. We can only hope that the nexus can be nudged in the direction of greater transparency so that voters can make more informed choices.
