Socialism for the twenty-first century is not a statist society where decisions are top-down and where all initiative is the property of state office-holders or cadres of self-reproducing vanguards. It rejects a state that stands over and above society and squeezes “the living civil society like a boa constrictor”.
While a handful of companies control almost everything the Western world consumes in regard to media, a report by the Swiss Propaganda Research center says that all these media companies are tied to a single organization—the Council on Foreign Relations.
I fear that as we unite, we diminish our ability to respect, and understand, the complexity of the universe, and of our fellow humans…. This is history’s primary lesson: The savage we need to civilize, continually, is within ourselves.

Collectively, we need to imagine a world in which we as Americans are no longer the foremost merchants of death, in which we don’t imagine ourselves as the eternal global police force, in which we don’t spend as much on our military as the next 10 countries combined.
We need to move beyond U.S. myopia and analyze U.S.-Korea policy in terms of “deep rationality.” That is, the underlying reasons for behavior not articulated by the actors, perhaps out of prudence, but also quite likely because they are not aware of them themselves.

What unites the West Indian islands is not language and culture, but the wretchedness of slavery, rooted in an oppressive plantation economy.
