Whatever Biden review finds, the cause of the pandemic lies in the destruction of animal habitats.
Up to now, the US has suffered over 617,000 deaths; China in contrast has suffered fewer than 5,000 deaths in a population four times as large as the US. Could there not be some lessons that might serve us in the West now and in the future?
China has integrated itself into the world economy and to a certain degree into Western-dominated financial institutions since the 1970s. However, it has never relinquished capital controls and its financial opening is comparatively limited.
China is the world’s second-largest economy and the world’s main industrial producer and exporter. How can we characterize the economic and social transformations that have marked China’s development over the past four decades?
Joe Biden has been participating in several international meetings covering a wide range of issues but with one key goal in mind: intensify the new Cold War with China and construct a global front towards this end. After a communique issued by a NATO summit, China finally responded to this campaign.
China is the world leader in high-speed rail development, sporting more than 35,000 km of high-speed rail, or 68 percent of the world’s total. US think-tanks are criticising China’s rail policies saying that they damage “innovation” by privileging domestic market development and state-owned enterprises over private corporations.
The abiding essence of the American elite’s foreign policy is: maintaining their dominance over the world, for their own power and profit. (They certainly aren’t doing it for the sake of the nation, which they’ve turned into a rotting husk.)
China seems poised to take leadership of regional efforts to forge a safety net that protects countries in East Asia from the fragility that cross-border financial flows engender.
The only thing we can state with certainty is this: our understanding of the origins of Covid has been narratively managed over the past 15 months and is still being narratively managed. We are being told only what suits powerful political, scientific and commercial interests.
If the world, and the USA, are to implement their plans for a green energy future, Washington and Beijing have no option but to cooperate. Otherwise, they can revert to the oil wars of the past. On an already overheating planet, that would lead to a civilizational fate worse than death.
