On 12 August 2021, the people of Zambia will vote to elect a new president. The incumbent, President Edgar Lungu, is facing a strong challenge from Fred M’membe, the presidential candidate of the Socialist Party Zambia.
Dialogue seems to have been downgraded between the Western alliance and Russia, with a green light to Ukraine to make provocative statements and actions. Unless cool heads prevail, it could lead to catastrophic war.
The US under Biden is attempting to strangulate the newly elected MAS government in Bolivia. The Bolivian government is not only taking action against the coup leaders, it has also formed a new group of 17 countries to address the way in which the US has undermined the UN Charter.
Washington has been trying to push out China from Myanmar; however, both the military and NLD are committed to the strategic link with China. But it does not help that this “new cold war” has deepened the instability that marks Myanmar’s history since 1962.
Nuclear disarmament has a long history. In 1961, the U.S. and the USSR signed an agreement calling not only for “general and complete disarmament” but also that war should “no longer [be] an instrument for settling international problems.” Gone is that spirit. It needs to be revived.

Despite the pressure from the United States and its allies, the people of Venezuela remain committed to the democratic project set in motion by Hugo Chávez. It is their participation in every aspect of the fight against the pandemic that has kept it in check.
It was the immense bravery of the Bolivian people that allowed the MAS to build up their forces and to triumph at the ballot box on 18 October.
