It is hard to fathom the depths of our time, the terrible wars, and the confounding information that whizzes by without much wisdom. Certainties that flood the airwaves and the internet are easy to come by, but it appears that much of the ‘certainties’ are caught up in the ‘Cold War mentality’.
The U.S. government seeks to bring Assange to the U.S. to be tried under the Espionage Act for soliciting, obtaining, and then publishing classified information–in other words, precisely the work of an investigative journalist. It is journalism, therefore, that Assange is being prosecuted for.
Amnesty International recently released a 280-page report with a sharp headline, “Israel’s Apartheid Against Palestinians.” Amnesty “concluded that Israel has perpetrated the international wrong of apartheid, as a human rights violation and a violation of public international law.”
