Capitalism produces four mutually reinforcing and multiplying apocalyptic horsemen: ecocide, pandemicide, potentially terminal nuclear war, and fascism.
There’s long been a ruling class gentleman’s agreement about prosecuting US presidents and former presidents: you don’t do it since the “commander in chief” of the giant and mass murderous US Empire regularly commits grave crimes in the execution of his duties.
Things are smelling very Weimar Germany right now in your 21st Century “homeland”, my fellow US-Americans. Think we can’t go Hitler’s way here, in the USA? Think again. It’s happening right now, with help from Weimar Dems. Join the growing movement to protect Roe (for starters) from the right-wing assault.
The author is not referring to the war in Ukraine, but to the capitalist war on livable ecology. There’s no war and peace, no social justice, no democracy, no demilitarization, on a dead planet, whether it is frozen in nuclear winter or melted by climate change.
“We must never forget” 9/11 when “America was attacked”; but we are not supposed to know or care about American crimes and atrocities within and beyond North America.
Imagine a nation so reactionary and racist that “Black Lives Matter” is considered a “radical slogan” inside its borders. Imagine a nation so economically unequal that its top one-thousandth has more wealth than its bottom 90 percent…
Because the ‘Greatest Country in the World’ is so damn savagely capitalist, imperialist-militarist, unequal, plutocratic, and racist.
Janata Weekly is India’s oldest independent socialist weekly.
Ever since its founding in 1946, Janata has voiced its principled dissent against all conduct and practice that is detrimental to the cherished values of nationalism, democracy, secularism and socialism, while upholding the integrity and the ethical norms of healthy journalism. For more than seventy years now, week after week, it has continued to analyse the changes taking place in the country and the world from a socialist standpoint, and thus promote the spread of socialist ideology in the country.
