Chomsky wrote this piece 14 years ago, in April 2010. Its subject was the devastation Israel was causing in Gaza, and on that country’s “criminal siege” of Gaza. Not much different from the situation today.

With landmark anniversaries of the invasions of Iraq and Ukraine, and the failure to address global heating, ninety seconds to midnight may be too generous an appraisal.
It’s no small horror that, on this planet of ours, humanity continues to foster two apocalyptic forces, each of which — one in a relative instant and the other over many decades — could cripple or destroy human life as we know it. That should be sobering indeed for all of us.
