Many of the accusations against degrowth have been answered. One accusation still seems to lack an adequate response: Is the US working class inherently anti-degrowth because it would mean a massive loss of jobs?
Recent data shows that between 2019 and 2021, life expectancy (LE) in the US plunged almost three years while for Cuba it edged up 0.2 years. Yet, in 1960, the year after its revolution, Cuba had a LE of 64.2 years, lower by 5.6 years than that in the US (69.8 years).
Review of the book ‘Disaster Preparedness and Climate Change in Cuba: Adaptation and Management’. It traces Cuba’s preparedness from the threat of a US invasion following its revolution through its resistance to hurricanes and diseases, which all laid the foundation for current adaptions to climate change.

There is a widespread belief that supporting “alternative energy” (AltE) allows everyone on Earth to pursue a lifestyle of endless consumerism. It avoids the real problem, which is capitalism’s uncontrollable drive for economic growth.
Creation of all forms of energy contributes to the destruction of nature and human life. It is possible to increase the global quality of life at the same time we reduce the use of fossil fuels and other sources of energy. Therefore, a “deep” GND would focus on energy reduction / conservation.
Five years ago, Berta Cáceres, who opposed the Agua Zarca dam in Honduras, was murdered. This year, many people died in the Tehri Dam disaster in Uttarakhand, India. Both incidents together speak volumes about the consequences of the insatiable greed of capitalism for more energy.
