Eugene Debs’s unswerving commitment to democracy and socialism was born out of his revulsion at the tyranny of industrial capitalism. We should carry forth that Debsian vision today — by recognizing that class struggle is the precondition for winning a more democratic world.
This 4th September marks 50 years since the electoral victory of Salvador Allende in Chile – bringing panic to the White House. Five decades on, the reverberations of its appeal still resonate very strongly, both in Chile and internationally.
The extradiction trial of WikiLeaks editor Julian Assange is about to resume in London. The US is determined to punish Assange for exposing the cruelty of its war on Iraq. Only a wave of public mobilisation can force the Tory govt to refuse the extradiction of Assange.
On this third anniversay of her murder, we pledge to continue Gauri’s fight against the haters of free speech and a plural India. We will continue to speak on her behalf and ours. They cannot silence us all.
Is this an investigation into a “conspiracy” or is the investigation itself a conspiracy?
We declare that the government will never succeed in silencing us, and will never succeed in taking away from us the dream we inherited from our freedom struggle, the dream of together building a country which is just, and equal, and kind.
